The Rotary Club of Peachland is pleased to announce their new partnership with the Peachland Food Bank. For the new school year the Peachland Food Bank will serve as the Financial Administrator for the programme. The Foodbanks’ new Treasurer, Helen Walker, will receive donations and issue tax receipts targeted for the Starfish Programme, as well as for the Food Bank. Donations for both these programmes are crucial now -particularly since many of our business supporters are unable to contribute as they did previously, because of the loss of revenue caused by the COVID pandemic.
The Starfish Programme supplies a weekly supply of food to help families of children attending Peachland Elementary School. Food for breakfast, lunch and dinner is placed in each backpack. The school distributes the backpacks on Friday afternoons. The children return the backpacks to the School on Monday. Rotary Club members pick up the backpacks to refill them and the cycle repeats each Friday. The programme costs $525.00 per year for each child. Our continuing partnership with Save On Foods in Westbank reduces our cost substantially because of the very generous discounts they give us for this programme.
If you would like to help out, donations can be made at the Peachland Pharmacy or you can mail your cheque payable to the “Starfish Backpack Programme”, to Peachland Pharmacy, 5848A Beach Avenue, Peachland, BC V0H 1X7. Thank you for all your past help with this continuing need in our community. “
