Seniors’ Bus Trip

Seniors’ Bus Trip

This is a very popular annual bus trip organized by the club to take seniors who are confined to Peachland and its immediate vicinity, to see the spring blossoms of the Okanagan Valley. The trip is a day-long event, providing seniors with a picnic lunch, good fellowship and even impromptu birthday parties.  The seniors do not have any idea where we are taking them – which adds to the enjoyment of the day.

2019 Seniors’ Bus Trip – May 22nd

A special thanks to the Rotary committee who took great detail in the planning of this trip – Margaret and Ted Sinclair, Jane Tench and Chris Scowen.  Peter Behnke, Wendy Howard, Rod MacIntosh and Linda Metcalfe also helped out the day of the tour.
At 9.00 am Rotarians and about 44 seniors  loaded the bus at the Peachland Community Centre which was previously stocked with all the lunch packs and beverages supplied by the Rotarians the day prior.
We took Hwy 97, with a slight detour through Summerland along Lakeshore Drive so that the bus would arrive in Okanagan Falls – for a much anticipated stop at Tickleberry’s where many enjoyed their favourite ice cream. (Just click on the photos to enlarge them)

Then everyone was back on the bus while we travelled Hwy 97 and Hwy 3 to Anarchist Mountain Lookout for a short stop to enjoy the fabulous views.

Then back down the hill on Hwy 3 to Osoyoos Waterfront Park where everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by our Rotarians.  It seems the editor was too busy eating and chatting and forgot to take some photos at this location!
Then off on Hwy 3 past  Spotted Lake to  Cawston and our next stop at Crowsnest Winery.  The ladies enjoyed many tastings of the white, red and rose wines offered.

Even the Rotarians enjoyed a few minutes relaxing knowing the planned trip was going well and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Next stop took us along Hwy 3, Hwy 3A and Hwy 97 to Summerland –  Lakeshore Drive Rotary Park  where all enjoyed a slice of cake. Marjorie Mack, a Peachland resident for 88 years, cut the first slice of cake.   Even the bus driver had a slice!  Then back along Hwy 97 to the Peachland Community Centre  for a 4.00 pm arrival.   It was a fun-filled day and amazingly, we were on time for both the departure and arrival!
